Silas Dent on Christmas

Abstract/Description: Sepia colored image displaying local "hermit" Silas Dent on Christmas Eve providing children with Christmas gifts. Dent homesteaded at Cabbage Key, just east of Pass-a-Grille, in the year 1900. He maintained a rustic lifestyle despite the modernization of the community around him, and developed a reputation as a local character of note. In this photograph, Silas Dent is wearing a Santa costume and is sporting a white beard. There are eleven children in the photograph and a girl is holding a teddy bear. There are a total of four boys and seven girls. Christmas decorations can be seen on a Christmas tree.
